How do CGHs work?

CGHs are diffractive optics.  The local period of the diffractive structure of a CGH helps us understand how light interacts with it:

  • Thinking in terms of rays, the angle of diffraction from a CGH can be calculated using the Grating Equation.
  • Thinking in terms of wavefront, CGHs can be considered Contour Maps of wavefront modification.
